Your YouTube comment history is at youtube.com/feed/history/comment_history, where YouTube Help says you can view the public comments you’ve left across YouTube. Select a comment there to jump to where you posted it. To search every comment you’ve written by word and year, load your Google Takeout comments file into the tool above.

Where to see your YouTube comments

The quickest way to see your comments is the link. Open youtube.com/feed/history/comment_history while signed in to the account you comment with. YouTube Help calls this page Comment History. It lists the public comments you’ve left across YouTube, and selecting one takes you to the place you wrote it.

  • On a computer: open YouTube’s menu, select History, then select Comments under Manage all history.
  • On a phone: open youtube.com/feed/history/comment_history in your phone’s browser. Guides list different paths through the YouTube app, so the link is the simplest route.
  • In Your Data in YouTube: select your profile picture, then Your Data in YouTube, for a summary of your YouTube data that includes your comments. YouTube Help says it works on desktop and mobile web only.
  • In Google Takeout: a copy of your comments as comments.csv, which the tool above reads. The steps under Get the file from Google Takeout export your comments and your history. Google says each archive expires in about 7 days and can be downloaded 5 times.

How to delete your YouTube comments

YouTube Help only describes deleting comments one at a time, either from Comment History or from the video itself. Deleting your channel removes all of them. To clear out old comments, search them above, open each one highlighted on YouTube, and delete it there.

  • From Comment History: select the remove icon on the comment you want to delete.
  • From the video: in Comment History, select the video link. Next to your comment, select More, then Edit or Delete.
  • All at once: closing your YouTube channel permanently deletes your content, including comments, according to YouTube Help. It also deletes your videos, messages, playlists, and history. You can’t close a channel from a phone, and Google warns that your account may be harder to recover afterwards. Export your comments from Takeout first if you want a copy.

Why some comments are missing

YouTube Help gives two reasons a comment won’t show in Comment History: you commented on a video that was later deleted, or YouTube removed your comment for a policy violation. If a comment is missing from this page’s results too, check which account the export came from and when you made it.

  • Another account. Each Takeout export holds one Google Account’s comments. Comments you posted from a different account are in that account’s history and its own export.
  • A newer comment. Takeout copies your comments on the day you create the export. Comments you post after that need a new export.

How the search works

Load comments.csv and every comment in it appears here, newest first. Type words from a comment to find it, pick a year, or show only comments or only replies. Each result links to your comment on YouTube, highlighted, the same kind of link YouTube makes when you select a comment’s timestamp.

  • Words, in any order: every word you type has to appear in the comment, or in its video’s title or channel once watch history is loaded. Capital letters don’t matter.
  • Years, comments, and replies: pick a year, sort newest or oldest first, and show everything, only comments, or only replies.
  • Highlighted links: Open on YouTube opens the video with your comment at the top, marked as highlighted. A reply opens inside its thread.
  • Your first comment and yearly counts: the cards above the search show the oldest comment in your file and how many comments you posted each year.
  • A copy you keep: Download CSV saves the comments in the list, with any search and filters applied. The file opens in Sheets or Excel with commas, line breaks, and emoji intact.
  • Video titles and channels: the comments file names no video titles or channels. Add watch-history.json from the export’s history folder, and each comment on a video in your watch history shows that video’s title and channel. Comments on other videos keep their date and text.
  • Older and translated exports: older exports hold my-comments.html instead of comments.csv, and it loads the same way. Exports in other languages translate the column names. The page recognizes each column by what it holds, so those load too.
  • Several exports: load more than one comments file at once, and a comment that appears in both counts once.
  • Your files: your browser reads them on this page. They’re never uploaded to Retube’s servers, and the site’s session recordings leave the tool and its results out.

Give the channels you comment on their own feed

The channels you comment on most are likely the ones you watch closely, yet YouTube’s Subscriptions feed mixes them in with everything else you follow. Retube, our free Chrome extension, groups the channels you choose into feeds inside YouTube, such as Cooking, Science, or Learning.

Load watch-history.json with your comments, and the results list the channels you comment on most. Choose Download Retube backup to save your top 20 as one feed. Import the file in Retube from Help & support → Backup & local data. Importing replaces any feeds you already have, so it suits a fresh install best.

To find a video you watched rather than a comment you wrote, search your watch history. For a year in review from the same history file, try YouTube Wrapped.
