Analytics
The website uses PostHog to understand how visitors arrive and whether the page helps them. PostHog records page views, the page you came from, clicks, scroll depth, and the buttons you use to reach the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, Edge Add-ons, or the help guide. It also records session replays: a reconstruction of how the page was scrolled and clicked. Anything you type into the site, such as a video link in a tool, is masked before it leaves your browser.
Events go from your browser to p.retubeapp.com, a subdomain of this site operated by PostHog, Inc. in the United States, which processes them on the developer’s behalf. Your IP address is used to estimate country and city and is not stored with events. The site uses no advertising networks or tracking pixels, and sets no third-party cookies. Five tools, described below, load content from third parties: the cookie-free watcher, the embed code generator, and the thumbnail downloader from YouTube, the dislike viewer from Return YouTube Dislike and YouTube, and the deleted video finder from YouTube and the Internet Archive.
Files you open in tools
Tools on the website, such as YouTube Wrapped, read the file you choose inside your browser. The file and what the tool shows from it are never uploaded, and session replays leave the tool and its results out.
Videos you play in tools
The cookie-free YouTube watcher uses YouTube API Services. It plays the video you choose in YouTube’s embedded player, loaded from youtube-nocookie.com in privacy-enhanced mode. When the player loads, YouTube receives your IP address, the video, and the site it’s on, and it stores data in your browser with local storage and similar technology. It may set cookies once you play. YouTube handles this data under the Google Privacy Policy, and the player is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service.
The tool keeps the video in the page address so you can share it. Analytics events and session replays mask that part of the address, so PostHog never records which video you played.
The YouTube embed code generator builds embed code in your browser and sends nothing while you type. When you select Get embed code, your browser asks YouTube’s oEmbed service on youtube.com for the video’s title, and the preview loads YouTube’s embedded player: from youtube-nocookie.com in privacy-enhanced mode, or from youtube.com when you turn that mode off. YouTube receives your IP address, the video or playlist, and the site it’s on with these requests, and the player stores data in your browser as described above. From youtube.com, YouTube’s usual cookies apply. YouTube handles this data under the Google Privacy Policy, and the player is subject to the YouTube Terms of Service.

Videos you look up in tools
The YouTube dislike viewer sends nothing while you type. When you select Show dislikes, your browser sends the video ID to Return YouTube Dislike, an independent open-source project, for the video’s votes, and to YouTube’s oEmbed service for its title and channel. Both receive your IP address with the request. Return YouTube Dislike describes what it collects in its FAQ. YouTube handles its request under the Google Privacy Policy and the YouTube Terms of Service.

The YouTube thumbnail downloader sends nothing while you type. When you select Download thumbnails, your browser loads the video’s thumbnail images from YouTube’s image server, i.ytimg.com, and loads the file again when you download a size. YouTube receives your IP address and the video ID with each request, under the Google Privacy Policy. The images go straight to your browser and never through this site. The tool keeps the video in the page address so you can share the result, and analytics events and session replays mask that part of the address and the thumbnails.
The deleted YouTube video finder sends nothing while you type. When you select Find video, your browser sends the video ID to YouTube’s oEmbed service, which says whether the video is still on YouTube. When YouTube no longer shows it, your browser also sends the ID to the Internet Archive, a nonprofit library, for a saved copy of the watch page and a saved item. Both receive your IP address with the request. YouTube handles its request under the Google Privacy Policy, and the Internet Archive under its terms of use. The tool keeps the video in the page address so you can share the result, and analytics events and session replays mask that part of the address and the result.
Searches you build in tools
The YouTube advanced search builder builds a YouTube search link in your browser and sends nothing while you type. It keeps your words, channel, and filters in the page address so you can share the search. Analytics events and session replays mask the words and the channel. YouTube receives the search when you open the link, under the Google Privacy Policy.
Stored in your browser
PostHog sets a first-party cookie and a local storage entry so that repeat visits are recognized as the same visitor and a visit is recorded as one session. Neither is shared with any other site.
Opting out
Because events travel through a subdomain of this site, content blockers may not stop them. To opt out, block p.retubeapp.com in your blocker, or clear this site’s cookies and site data in your browser and it forgets you. Do not Track and Global Privacy Control signals are not currently honoured.
